Berkeley Bamyan Education Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our mission is to support educational institutes and create job/vocational training, literacy, English, and computer classes, especially for women. We promote higher education and provide all necessary tools and supplies for self-sufficiency to this safe, but war torn, region of Afghanistan.

About Bamyan, Afghanistan:
Bamyan, Afghanistan, is a town in central Afghanistan, the capital of Bamyan Province. It has is approximately 240 kilometers north-west of Kabul. Bamyan is the biggest town in Hazarajat.It is famous for the ancient part of the town, where the Buddhas of Bamyan stood for almost two millennia.
Historical Information: Afghanistan’s history can be traced back to when the land was once called”Ariana”. Bamyan means” the place of shining light”. Bamyan central cultural monuments were the two Buddha statues carved in the eastern and western ends of a high cliff facing the central valley. Some one thousand caves are also cut into the cliff face and decorated with rich variety murals. The Buddhist art of Bamyan, which enjoyed a renaissance in central Afghanistan after the collapse of the earlier Gandharan culture, spread to and influenced various countries along the Silk Road.
